On to new beginnings

Over the past 10 years, Green Fork has inspired and educated the local community about the importance of local, seasonal, and organic food while empowering participants to make conscious food choices. Although Green Fork will not continue as a project with another organization, we are happy to see that our local community now has a plethora of other organizations that are hosting speaker series and movie nights on these same issues.

One of our co-hosted events, the Edible Landscaping Tour, will occur this year on July 24th, 2010 with both Susan Stansbury and Susan Osofsky contributing as members of the organization team.

Susan Stansbury will be continuing her work with local food systems through active participation in countywide food system alliance work in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. In addition, she will be coordinating the Midtown Garden under the fiscal sponsorship of Acterra.

Susan Stansbury will also be coordinating the outdoor classroom program through the Mountain View Whisman School District and working with Acterra on their Urban Ecology program.

Susan Osofsky will be continuing her local food system and permaculture work with PLANT!, www.plantrust.org, and Village Harvest, www.villageharvest.org.

Overview

Food is fundamental to a sustainable future. Transporting food uses up non-renewable fossil fuels, which alters the climate with greenhouse gases. Conventional farming practices also pollute the water and deplete the soil. So, although supermarket shelves are filled today, we are undermining our ability to produce enough food in the future.

Green Fork, a project of Conexions, inspires and educates people to grow, buy, cook, and eat seasonal, local, organic food that is good for themselves, good for the Earth, and good for future generations.
