Getting Going Growing OverviewSchool gardens help solve some of the most pressing concerns of our children-- a lack of connection to real food leading to poor nutritional habits and a lack of time out in nature often leading to sedentary behavior and ecological illiteracy. Conexions' Getting Going Growing has been at the forefront of establishing school gardens in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties since 2000. Conexions supports school gardens to help children discover that deep connection that we have with the Earth, understand the basics of where food comes from, and develop a sense of curiosity and wonder about the natural world. School garden lessons can also be tied directly to most CA state standards and provide a source of enhanced learning about the curriculum concepts and an excitement for the concepts in the curriculum. Getting Going Growing has worked with dozens of schools throughout San Mateo and Santa Clara counties bringing school grounds to life.
