Exploring Sense of Place Project Staff

Karen Harwell is Director of Exploring a Sense of Place, a project of Conexions. This project was developed as a participatory educational program through The Foundation for Global Community, where the focus was always on discovering how humans can live in ways beneficial for all of life. Karen’s early years were imprinted by the majesty and inherent wisdom of the Colorado Rockies. Her study in Ecology was at the University of Colorado receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in preparation for teaching K-12 as well as developing curriculum and facilitating courses through the Foundation. Her graduate study includes Philosophy, Cosmology and Consciousness at the California Institute of Integral Studies, six-week intensive in Earth Literacy, and certification in Permaculture.

Joanna Reynolds has been with Conexions since its inception and, along with Karen Harwell, is a co-founder of the Exploring a Sense of Place Program, and co-author of the guidebook Exploring a Sense of Place. Now Guidebook Coordinator, she has worked for many years in education, developing curriculums and facilitating courses and programs designed to inspire participation in the conscious evolution of culture. |

Judy Cronin joined Conexions as the Course Coordinator for Exploring a Sense of Place in 2007. Prior to this Judy volunteered with ESOP. Judy is also a docent at Edgewood Park where she leads wildflower hikes and helps restore the natural ecosystem. She grew up on a farm in the bioregion of New Zealand. |

Laurel Smith , Outreach Coordinator for Exploring a Sense of Place – joined Conexions in 2008. Laurel attended San Diego State University where she studied International Security and Conflict Resolution and Spanish, and directed the University’s indoor and outdoor rock climbing programs. She has worked in the environmental field in Ecuador and New Zealand, and is on the Board of Directors of Mountain View Trees. |
