May 28, 2009 – Conexions’ will offer a two-week Permaculture Design Course July 13 – 25, 2009 that focuses on regenerative, holistic land management principles.  Along with learning sustainable practices, participants will play a key role in creating a demonstration center for Permaculture Design that will build a legacy of sustainability.

Design Principles for Holistic Land Use
Peninsula Permaculture, a project of Conexions, is offering a Permaculture Design Course at Tunitas Creek Ranch in Half Moon Bay, CA.  This two-week intensive course is for homeowners and professionals that want to use regenerative land principles that can be applied to a variety of applications from home yards and dense urban environments to vast rangelands.

“Our curriculum is based on the Permaculture course designed by the Tagari Institute which is regarded as the founder of modern permaculture principles”, says Doniga Markegard, Director of Conexions’ Peninsula Permaculture.  Conexions’ course covers a wide range of topics and their applications including: Permaculture Principles and Ethics, Zone and Sector Analysis, Water Harvesting, Renewable Energy Systems, Earthworks and Natural Building, Soil Rehabilitation and Erosion Control, Creating Effective Designs, Drafting Strategies and Techniques, as well as several other core topics that provide the participant with a well rounded set of holistic principles and skills.

During the course, participants complete a conceptual permaculture design project and participate in a variety of meaningful hands-on activities, including contributing to the development of an educational Permaculture demonstration site. The participants’ efforts will help build a legacy of sustainability that will carry on for generations to come.

The course is taught by nationally and regionally recognized Permaculture Design experts Doniga Markegard, Benjamin Fahrer, Susan Osofsky and several prominent guest instructors including Penny Livingston-Stark and James Stark.   “This is our second year of offering this course, and we feel that it is extremely relevant given the desire of our community members to become more deeply connected to the land while providing a solutions-base holistic approach to regenerative Earth practices” says Susan Stansbury, Executive Director, Conexions.
